He was viting researcher at AT%T Bell Labs (Holmdel, NJ, 1987-1989). Presntly he is Full Professor at Unicamp, Director of the Optics and Photonics REsearch Center at Unicamp, Coordinator of the National Institute of Photonics Science and Technology for Optical Communications (INCT Fotonicom), and coordinator of the KyaTera Project. He is member of the program committee of Fapesp's Infomation Technologies for the Advance of the Internet (TIDIA), member of the Optical Society of America, the IEEE Photonics Society (formerly LEOS), IEEE Communications Society (ComSoc), the Brazilian Physics Society, Brazilian Microweaves and Optoelectronics Society, and the Brazilian Telecommunications Society.
